For most of Indian business history, major decisions — pricing, hiring, market entry, inventory — were made on experience, relationships, and instinct. This worked when markets moved slowly and information asymmetry was the norm. Neither of those conditions applies today.
According to a 2025 Gartner survey of Asia-Pacific business leaders, India showed the highest year-on-year increase in self-service analytics adoption among all markets surveyed — up 41% from 2023. The driver is competitive survival.
The common thread across these examples is not the sophistication of the AI. It is the foundational data infrastructure — clean, centralised, consistently updated, and accessible to the people who make decisions.
The Divide
India's data-driven transition is real, but it remains uneven. The enterprises building that infrastructure now are creating a compounding advantage. Those still running on spreadsheets and monthly review meetings are falling further behind with every quarter that passes.
